In times where budget cuts are sometimes necessary, performing arts programs are usually one of the first programs to go. In order to keep their heads above water and provide a space for men and women to do what they love, performing arts centers often rely upon the generous donations of their supporters. This is precisely the circumstances that the John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center in Washington D.C. found themselves in when they recently set fundraising goals to keep their programs going and expand so that more people can enjoy the performances of talented artists from around the world. Their initial funding goal of 125 million dollars has already been far surpassed by almost 15 million dollars thanks to many generous donations. One such donor is Dick DeVos who donated one million dollars along with other donors from his families foundation. This money will be used for expanding the facility to accommodate more people as well as build an outdoor river front facility so that performances can be put on outdoors as well. DeVos and his family’s foundation are no strangers to charitable giving. The DeVos family has recognized that they have been afforded things in life that not everyone is able to have and so they have dedicated their family foundation to giving back to their community and seeing that those who are less fortunate receive opportunities that they may not have otherwise received. DeVos is also very involved with the group Grand Action which is attempting to reinvigorate downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. With the help from some very generous donors such as DeVos, the group that he co-chairs hopes to bring businesses and jobs and people back to downtown Grand Rapids and return it to the thriving city that it once was. Another group that DeVos has close ties to is The Windquest Group which invests in a variety of technologies which include clean, renewable energy resources. For more information about Dick Devos and his many charitable donations to worth causes, I encourage you to visit this link where you can learn more. Thanks to the generous donation of individuals like Dick Devos, the strong community of the performance arts will continue to live on in Washington D.C. for years to come. Charity is something that Dick DeVos’ parents taught him and it is something he is actively passing down to his four children as well so that they may carry on his legacy.
